Carluccio's Caffe culture

Hundreds of people flocked to Carluccio's Caffe last weekend, to visit the chef's market. Star attraction was a display of growing mushrooms organised by the Mushroom Bureau. Two bureau members ñ Livesey Bros of Leicestershire, the UK's No 1 grower of exotic mushrooms, and Tas Valley, producer of the Norfolk Flat provided mushrooms growing in their own substrate. The delicate white button mushrooms grew daily to become larger closed cup and open mushrooms. The clusters of yellow, grey and pink oyster mushrooms colonised the blocks alongside a special log of shiitake mushrooms.

Visitors also received copies of two bureau recipe booklets ñ Healthy Mushrooms in Minutes and Mushrooms Vegetarian and Vegan ñ when they purchased wild and cultivated mushrooms from a market stall alongside the growing mushrooms.

Further mushroom markets will be held outside Carluccio's Caffes in St Albans October 17-19 and Kingston-upon-Thames October 24-26, with growing mushrooms on display at each event.
