5-a-day message strengthened by DoH

A new department of health handy-hints booklet, ‘5 A DAY Made Easy’, is now available free of charge.

Leading food manufacturers and retailers have teamed up with the department of health to produce 5 A DAY Made Easy - a pocket-sized booklet full of handy hints and quirky tips to help consumers eat more fruit and vegetable to reach their 5-a-day target.

The booklet, compiled by people across the UK, provides practical guidance on how to eat more fruit and veg on a budget, what counts as a portion, cooking and preparation advice as well as tips for children and partners.

As well as healthy-eating advice, consumers can also benefit from money-off vouchers and competitions. Whitworths Fruits are offering 10p off 5x25g multipacks of dried fruits while Asda, Hazeldene Foods and Moulinex provided in-store vouchers, holiday vouchers and juicers as competition prizes.

5 A DAY Made Easy will also be available free-of-charge with Your Life! magazine in high-street supermarkets, newsagents, leisure centres, hairdressers and nail salons.

If you are interested in making 5 A DAY Made Easy available to your customers, limited quantities are available free of charge. Please contact Victoria Smith at Munro & Forster on 020 7815 3900.

The booklet carries the DoH 5-a-day logo, which is designed to help consumers achieve their 5-a-day target. Companies can apply for a licence to use the logo, for display on pack or promotional materials. Currently, it is available for use on products which contain no added sugar, salt or fat (this includes fresh, frozen, cooked, chilled, canned and dried fruits and vegetables). The logo has already begun to appear on a wide variety of brands throughout the country.

For more information on the 5-a-day programme and details on how to apply for the logo, visit www.dh.gov.uk/healthtopics and select 5 A DAY from the menu.
