The NFU and the Federation Nationale des Syndicats d’Exploitations Agricoles (FNSEA) are concerned about the gradual implementation of CAP reform across Europe and have decided to watch the affect this will have on competition and trade. The organisations will aim to avoid the introduction of needless costs through cross-compliance circumstances.

“This was a very vital meeting for both organisations,” said Bennett. “France, like Britain has a strong farming tradition and by working together we can help shape the future for European agriculture.”

Both unions also agree that farmers from both countries must be pro active in environmental management and that a partnership between farmers and the authorities would be a better solution than the introduction of inappropriate, costly legislation.
