JS customers to become mango experts

Sainsbury’s is kicking off an exotic fruit education programme tomorrow, June 16.

The promotion includes sampling, demonstrations and a chance to win a luxury trip to Puerto Rico with mango growers Martex Farms*, the largest mango producer in the western hemisphere.

The education programme will run for 12 weeks with sampling stations in 60 JS stores across the Midlands and South East of England.

Consumer research has identified that whilst consumers are aware of mangoes and paw paws, not as many would know what to do with one but the education promotion is designed to change all this.

Around 90,000 Sainsbury’s customers are expected to take part in the programme, which will include simple serving suggestions such as the classic ‘hedgehog’ creation, which can be used as a decoration or sliced off and eaten straight away or used in recipes.

Sainsbury’s has also developed a recipe card containing ‘all you need to know’ about mangoes and paw paws, such as how to tell when the fruit is ripe and ready to eat. Plus all customers have the opportunity to enter a free prize draw to win a luxury trip for two to Puerto Rico, including a visit to a mango plantation.

Sainsbury’s Leo Muid said: “Many of our customers are missing out on delicious tasting fruits because they have no idea how to prepare them.”
