Vitacress range expands

Vitacress is extending its range of branded bagged salads launched last year to include organic lines due to burgeoning demand from customers.

“This has come about in response to smaller retail outlets and in response to our food service customers,” said Huw Griffiths, marketing manager at Vitacress. “It is about extending the values of the Vitacress trade brand. We work with a highly perishable product and we focus on freshness.”

In the next few weeks Vitacress will roll out branded organic wild rocket and organic bunched watercress. It already has an organic seasonal baby leaf mix, which varies according to seasonal availability of product and just before Christmas it unveiled an organic baby-leaf spinach bag.

Vitacress hopes that by offering a branded item on-shelf retailers will be able to bring more choice and value to the fixture in a market that is growing at some eight per cent a year.

Its conventional range features a rocket salad, a watercress, spinach and rocket salad, baby leaf spinach, watercress and a pack of wild rocket.

Customers that are already enjoying increased sales include Somerfield, Planet Organic, Fresh & Wild, and Robinsons on the Isle of Man.

“Vitacress as a company has for many years been at the forefront of technology and innovation in this sector,” said Griffiths. “We are developing our products continually to make salads more interesting in flavour and texture than ever before and respond to consumer demands for healthy choice working with the top processes to deliver a convenient, fresh product.”
