The Gangmasters Licensing Authority has revoked the licences of 11 labour providers: Croft Recruitment Ltd of Oldham, Dorval Ltd of Wolverhampton, Ian Damms and Mercury Personnel Solutions both of Boston, Labour Zone Ltd of Stevenage, Lusostaff of St Helens, Majinder Kaur of Kettering, MRC International of Chester, NSR Services Ltd of Willenhall, VJE Employment of Spalding and Wintel Ltd of Walsall.

With the amount of revocations increasing, the GLA has said it is actively encouraging all labour users to sign up to its automated active check. “This will enable any grower, processer or packhouse owner to be instantly informed if their provider loses their licence and avoid committing the offence of using an unlicensed provider which is punishable by up to six months imprisonment,” authority said in a statement.

The authority pointed out that some businesses have successfully applied for a new licence after demonstrating that the issues that led to revocation had been resolved.

Mike Wilson ceo of the GLA said: “It is important that labour providers realise that getting a licence is not the end of the story. To keep that licence they have to demonstrate continuing compliance. And if the GLA receives intelligence suggesting that labour providers are no longer compliant or that principals in the business are no longer fit or proper to hold a licence, they are likely to be inspected and to have their licence revoked. The GLA will continue to seek out labour providers operating without a licence. But this action should serve as a warning to licence holders that they need to keep standards up.”
