Competition searches for chicory master chef

Chicory enthusiasts could finally receive the recognition they’ve been yearning for in a new competition run by the Dutch Produce Association.

The Chicory Challenge, which has been created to boost sales of the vegetable in the UK, aims to inspire amateur and professional cooks, schools and colleges to submit their chicory-based recipes to a website.

The three best submissions will win an all-expenses paid trip to Amsterdam in November, where they will be put up in a top hotel with dinner in one of the city’s leading restaurants, and compete in a ‘cook off’ in front of a panel of English and Dutch cooks, food writers and VIPs, who will decide which recipe deserves to win the £5,000 top prize.

Finalists will also get the chance to see chicory being grown, and meet some of the people responsible for producing the world’s finest chicory.

There is also a second prize of £1,000 and a third prize of £500, which ‘can be donated to any charity of the winner’s choice’.

To enter the Chicory Challenge, recipes can be submitted at the competition’s website, www.chicorychallenge.co.uk. l
