Waitrose is set to open its first convenience store in London after acquiring a premises formerly owned by Woolworths, which crashed out of existence early this year.

The new store, at Crouch End in the north of the city, is 6,230sqft. Construction will begin in September for a planned opening in October, according to a report on Springfair.com.

Nigel Keen, director of development at Waitrose, said: "We have wanted to come to Crouch End for a long time and believe we have found a location that will allow us to attract shoppers to the high street and trade successfully.

"Through revitalising a vacant building, we will not only create new jobs, but provide a wider choice of shopping services for the local community.”

The new shop is the third Waitrose convenience store in the country, with stores already open in Nottingham and Bristol and a further c-store proposed.
