A Scottish firm that produces E coli fighting technology for growers has been given a five-figure loan from the UK Steel Enterprise (UKSE)as it looks to expand its services into new markets.
Irvine-based FoodScience's Hydromax technology reduces the risk of E coli and Salmonella infections during the harvesting and growing period of fruit and vegetables.
Scott Webb, regional executive of UK Steel Enterprise said he is delighted to be supporting the innovative business. He explained: “UKSE aims to support local businesses seeking to expand and make a positive contribution to the Scottish economy and we are looking forward to seeing Food Science achieve its ambitions to supply international food processors.”
Meanwhile, Dr Jim Pickard, managing director at FoodScience says the firm is currently designing a data logging system to alert the users of the live-time status of bacteria levels during fresh produce production via SMS.
“A growing number of British growers and processors are seeing the benefit of our systems and the loan will allow us to keep up with demandand make our mark in the overseas food industry,' said Pickard.
