Goatham lorry

Fuji apples were used as inspiration for one winning entry

Top-fruit giant AC Goatham launched a competition for local primary school children to choose names based on fruit varieties for its eight lorries.

Eight winners were selected from Allhallows, Stoke and Hoo primary school, out of 150 entries.

As well as seeing their names given to a lorry, winners will have an orchard planted at their school and receive a family Sunday lunch at The Barnyard Upchurch.

Winners from Allhallows primary included Leighton Carter with Fuji Fighter, Rose Whybrow with Maximus Spartan and Caden East with Russet Crow.

Stoke primary’s winners were Reba Cherry with Elvis Pearsley and Shane Parker with Newton's Discovery.

And from Hoo primary were Alfie Haines with Red Rubens Barrichello, Alexander Cockburn with Core’tney Cox and Ben Evans with Arthur Apple.

An official unveiling ceremony will be held on Friday 18 July, where winners will meet their newly-named lorries and receive their prizes.
