Angflor

Florette has completed its Angflor facility, effectively doubling the size of its UK growing operation.

The three-year expansion project, which is a collaboration between the branded salad market leader, Jepco Marketing and Anglia Salads, has seen the site grow from 11 to 22ha.

Angflor, in Essex, produces lamb's lettuce, wild rocket, lamb's cress and baby kale exclusively for Florette. The region is known to have some of the best light levels in the country, allowing the company to significantly increase the amount of UK-grown leaves it supplies. Previously, all of Florette's lamb's lettuce had to be sourced from France and Spain.

Florette has highlighted the fact that the project has helped it to reduce its environmental footprint and boost local employment.

Florette's UK and Ireland managing director, Neil Sanderson, said: “The Angflor vision was to see Florette focus on innovation, freshness and sustainability and the results speak for themselves, as the site has helped reduce food miles by 36,404 and collects 30 million gallons of water per annum.

'We look forward to seeing the Angflor site continue to grow and produce even more salad in 2016.”
