Kent businessman Steven Munday has been named as the new chief executive for top-fruit trade body English Apples and Pears (EAP).

Former Nike employee Munday takes over from Adrian Barlow, who will retire from the position in August but remain as chairman of the organisation for the immediate future. Munday joins EAP on 20 June for a handover that will include introductions to growers, marketing personnel, customers and other organisations.

He has spent the last 18 months as managing director of a division of Kent Commercial Services, a company that comprises six businesses including landscaping.

For the previous ten years he worked for Kent County Supplies and has also held various commercial, sales and marketing roles in the paper industry, as well as with Nike.

He said: “English fruits, particularly apples and pears, have always been close to my heart due to their healthy attributes and their contribution to the beauty of the English countryside.

“I am very aware of many of the challenges currently faced by the sector as well as the impressive growth of sales in recent years and I am looking forward to working with all those in the industry to ensure development continues.'
