Prices for Spanish strawberries have been strengthening after a period of inclement weather caused delays in harvesting. According to official market observation statistics from the Andalusia regional government heavy rainfall between 4 and 10 March delayed harvesting and only about 15 per cent of the fruit on plants could be gathered in. The result was significant uplift in prices after three weeks of disappointing price points in major EU markets, according to the Andalusian figures. Average UK wholesale market prices almost doubled week on week from 43p for a 250g punnet to 80p.
