Grower-owned body Horticultures Innovation Australia (Hort Innovation) has launched its Asian Markets Fund to boost trade opportunities for the Australian horticulture industry.

Hort Innovation is now calling for expressions of interests to potential co-investors with three investment programmes open to investors for three years – growth for Asian markets; market intelligence and data; and Australia Fresh collaborative market development.

“Increasingly, Australia’s reputation for offering healthy, safe and high-quality fruit, vegetables and nuts is spreading throughout the world driving more countries to import our produce,” explained John Lloyd, CEO of Hort Innovation. “Now we are calling for co-investors – such as research institutions, government departments and private sector agencies – to join us in propelling Australia’s trade activities to levels never before seen.”

The 'growth for Asian markets' programme will focus on expanding and accelerating growers’ capabilities to become export-ready, with dedicated training programmes to be set up.

The market intelligence and data programme will use high-quality information to better enable the Australia horticulture industry to be successful in a competitive global market.

“High-quality information and data regarding a range of market variables is essential to strengthening industry’s ability to respond to market requirements, and expand into new markets,” Lloyd said.

The final details of each programme will be finalised with co-investors, Hort Innovation said.
