Israeli exporter Agrexco is preparing to commence exports of its range of summer pitaya varieties, the company announced today.
According to Agrexco product manager Tidhar Jackson, the Carmel-branded fruit will be available continuously from mid-August until February, thanks to the broad variety cultivated by the company’s growers.
The season commences with the summer varieties, Venus, Apollo and White, which are exported until November, at which time the winter Desert King variety takes over until February.
Agrexco’s pitaya is grown along Israel's shoreline, from western Galilee in the north to the Negev in the south.
The company claims that its pitaya is an example of “green agriculture at its best”, with no pesticides used throughout the cultivation process to produce a “greener, healthier and tasty fruit”, according to Agrexco.
In addition, the fruit will reach its export markets via Agrexco's modern reefer vessels, which the company says have a much lower carbon footprint than any other means of transportation available.
