Agrexco has announced that this season's first deliveries of its easy-peel citrus variety, Or, are now being shipped to key European markets.

The variety, which is marketed under the Carmel brand, was developed by the Israeli Volcani centre, and is sought after by all consumer segments from children to adults, Agrexco said.

'Or is aimed at consumers looking for premium citrus varieties,' explained Golda Ezuz, manager of Agrexco's citrus department. 'Or's taste and easily peeled skin provides a unique eating experience.'

Ms Ezuz noted that volumes for the season would stand some 20 per cent higher than the previous year, although she added that it will ultimately fall short of demand, with crop sizes expected to rise in the future as a result of new plantings.

Arrivals in Europe will come in Agrexco's climate-friendly reefer vessels, ensuring optimal conditions for the cargo while also leaving a low carbon footprint, the Agrexco said.
