Fresh Logistics System, a subsidiary of German producer cooperative Landgard, is working with Aldi Süd to roll out a pilot project aimed at shortening the retailer’s fruit and vegetable supply chains.
As reported by Fruchthandel Magazineand Lebensmittelzeitung, Aldi Süd plans to simplify and streamline various processes downstream from its regional warehouses in Germany. These include imports, order picking, scheduling, quality control, and delivery.
“We are shortening our supply chain and making our sourcing processes more efficient in order to offer even more freshness and quality,' commented Christian Baur, corporate buying director at Aldi Süd. “By working directly with producers at origin, we are also achieving complete transparency along the entire supply chain.”
As part of the trial, Aldi Süd’s three regional companies located in Dormagen, Kerpen and Langenfeld – which serve around 200 stores – will receive fresh fruit and vegetables exclusively fromFresh Logistics System(known also in Germany as LG Frische-Logistik) from late May onwards. They will also play a central role in order picking and distribution to branches.
The ultimate goal, says Baur, is to offer shoppers even more quality and freshness in fruit and vegetables by bringing them to stores faster. “By intensifying direct cooperation with the producers, we will ensure that our customers will have the best offer in the future.”
