The celebration represents one of the peak avocado consumption seasons in the US, along with the Super Bowl.

More than 96,000 tonnes of Mexican avocados were shipped to the US ahead of this year’s Cinco de Mayo celebration according to the Association of Avocado Producers, Packers, and Exporters of Avocado from Mexico (Apeam).

Cinco de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo represents one of the peak avocado consumption seasons in the US, along with the Super Bowl, with dishes like guacamole now part of the culinary identity of these celebrations. The growing demand on this date translates into a crucial opportunity to strengthen the presence of Mexican avocados.

Apeam said this represents a significant economic benefit for thousands of producing, packing, and farmworker families in Michoacán and Jalisco, creating jobs and boosting regional development.

“Every avocado that reaches tables in the US carries with it a story of effort, pride, and responsibility. That’s why Apeam, together with Avocados From Mexico (AFM), the Avo Institute, and The Mexican Hass Avocado Importer Association (MHAIA), have joined forces to chart a path to sustainability for the future, promoting sustainable agricultural practices, environmental protection, and community well-being,” Apeam said.

“With this, the association reaffirms its commitment to a fairer, greener, and more prosperous future for all stakeholders in the avocado supply chain.”
