Auchan

French retailer Auchan has announced that it plans to stay put in the Hungarian market, seeing the potential for growth in the future, according to NamNews.

Jean Paul Filat, managing director of Auchan's local unit, said that he expected some retailers to leave the market as a result of the financial crisis and the small size of the Hungarian market.

However, he highlighted Auchan's conviction that, in spite of its size, the Hungarian market could see 'a very attractive increase in consumption after the crisis'.

Last year, the company recorded an increase in sales of 2.1 per cent in Hungary.
