Following its successful introduction of Polish watermelons in 2021, Biedronka continues to challenge conventional wisdom about what can be grown domestically
Biedronka has become the first retailer in Poland to sell table grapes that were grown in the country.
Sourced directly from local suppliers in Mazovia, the fruit went on sale this week in a total of 660 stores, mainly in the country’s larger cities Warsaw, Krakow, and Poznań.
Each 500g pack of green or black grapes is priced at 9.99 zlotys.
And the chain says it might expand the programme to additional locations across the country, depending on customer interest and product availability.
“We are pleased to be the first to offer our customers Polish grapes – a fruit previously associated primarily with imports,” said category manager Bartłomiej Wojtkowski.
“Whenever possible, we prioritise Polish products. This is the result of long-standing collaboration with local producers and our efforts to support the development of domestic agriculture.”
Biedronka has cultivated a reputation as a retailer that challenges conventional wisdom as far as what can or cannot be grown in Poland.
In 2021, it rolled out Masovia-grown watermelons, which it said generated “enormous” interest from consumers.
According to the company, its stores receive fresh fruit and vegetables from nearly 300 local producers.
