Durk Jager Chiquita

A senior director at Chiquita Brands International has left the company, apparently citing concerns over the multinational's financial position and operational set-up.

Durk Jager, the former chairman, president and chief executive of Procter & Gamble, who joined the Chiquita board eight years ago, reportedly confirmed his resignation as a director in an email last week.

In a statement, Chiquita said Mr Jager resigned 'due to concerns with the company's financial and operational performance and strategy'.

However, Chiquita would not be drawn on the veracity of such concerns. 'With respect to those matters, the company refers to its prior public disclosure, including its most recent quarterly report on Form 10-Q filed on 3 November 2010,' the company said.

Mr Jager was chairman of Chiquita's nominating and governance group as well as being a member of its food innovation, safety and technology committee.

Meanwhile, Chiquita also confirmed that it had trimmed the size of its board of directors, from nine to eight.

The group has also appointed Kerrii Anderson as Mr Jager's replacement chairing the board's nominating and governance committee.

'The company thanks Mr Jager for his service,' it added.
