Researchers, technologists and agri-food professionals gathered at Almería’s Tecnova Technology Centre last week for a postharvest and tech conference organised by Citrosol.

Titled “Post-Harvest and Technological Innovation: Improving Food Safety and Shelf-Life in Fresh and Minimally Processed Fruits and Vegetables”, the event delved into the main challenges and solutions related to food safety, disinfection, water management, and extending the shelf-life of fresh fruits and vegetables.

It featured a presentation by Ana Molina Jiménez, a pharmacist and registered dietitian-nutritionist, on the importance of food safety in preserving the nutritional properties of fruits and vegetables; an analysis of the threats related to postharvest wash water from Citrosol’s Martín Mottura; and presentations on the effectiveness of Citrocide by researcher Eva Petri and Citrosol’s María Reyes.

The closing session was led by Dr Rebeca Ramos of Tecnova, whose presentation addressed how disinfection and preservation technologies are geared towards extending the shelf-life of fresh produce and showcased success stories in the fruit and vegetable industry.

The day concluded with a cocktail reception and networking session, where professionals, companies, media, and attendees could exchange ideas and explore new collaboration opportunities. The interest shown throughout the event confirmed the growing importance of technological innovation and food safety for the future of the fruit and vegetable sector.
