Number of containers shipped in first half of 2025 up 27.1 per cent compared to year-earlier period
Colombia exported 60,412 reefer containers of bananas between January and July, an increase of 27.1 per cent compared to the same period of 2024, according to Pórticolive.
Shipments to Italy and Slovenia grew 101.3 per cent and 83.2 per cent respectively, highlighting the dynamic trend in exports to Europe, a key region for the banana sector.
The strong performance was put down to increased productivity due to improved climatic conditions.
The port city of Turbo exported 31,432 containers in the first half of the year, 31.8 per cent more than in the year-earlier period. This represents 52 per cent of Colombia’s total shipments. Sociedad Portuaria Santa Marta, meanwhile, saw exports jump 21.4 per cent in the same period.
