The official price of a box of Ecuadorean bananas for 2026 has been set at US$7.75, US$0.50 higher than in 2025. The price was agreed by producers and exporters on 8 December, during a meeting to set the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for bananas for the coming year.

Agriculture minister Juan Carlos Vega said the agreement guarantees a fair price for producers and helps maintain the competitiveness of the banana sector in the international market.

It has been a bumpy year for Ecuador’s banana sector, with diseases and climate change taking their toll on production. Despite this, official data from Acorbanec shows that exports for the January-October period reached 314.24mn boxes, an increase of 3.86 per cent on the year-earlier period.

The European Union consolidated its position as the main destination, accounting for 30.75 per cent of total exports. It was followed by Russia, with 20.01 per cent; the Middle East, with 14.96 per cent; the US, with 11.99 per cent; and the Southern Cone, which registered a 7.19 per cent share.
