The Spanish Federation of Associations of Producers and Exporters of Fruits, Vegetables, Flowers, and Live Plants (Fepex) has joined the 5 a Day Association as a new partner.

The organisations said the move would strengthen their shared commitment to fostering healthy eating and encouraging the consumption of fruits and vegetables among the general public.

The addition of Fepex marks a significant milestone for 5 a Day, as it brings one of the primary representative organisations of the Spanish fruit and vegetable sector into the project. Fepex currently encompasses 34 national, regional, and provincial associations, representing over 2,000 companies involved in the production and marketing of fresh fruits and vegetables, potatoes, prepared fruit and vegetable products, flowers, live plants, and nuts.

“This broad representation expands the reach of 5 a Day and facilitates collaboration between the production sector and initiatives aimed at promoting healthy eating habits,” Fepex said.

Since its creation, the 5 a Day Association has worked to encourage the daily consumption of at least five servings of fruits and vegetables and to promote healthy eating habits among the population.

Through communication campaigns, educational programmes, and awareness-raising initiatives aimed at various audiences, the association carries out vital work in disseminating information about the health benefits of these foods. The addition of Fepex provides further support for this initiative and helps strengthen collaboration among various stakeholders in the fruit and vegetable sector, all working toward the common goal of bringing fruits and vegetables closer to the public and encouraging their consumption.

Joaquín Rey, president of the 5 a Day Association, commented: “The addition of Fepex is excellent news for our association. Having the backing of an organisation that so effectively represents the fruit and vegetable sector bolsters our project and encourages us to continue our work in bringing fruits and vegetables to consumers. We are convinced that joining forces and sharing objectives is essential for continuing to promote healthy eating habits”.

Cecilio Peregrín, president of Fepex, stated: “Our joining 5 a Day reflects the commitment of the production and export sector to promoting the consumption of fruits and vegetables. We share the belief that it is important to encourage a balanced diet and to convey to the public the value of these foods as an essential part of a healthy diet”.
