AMFresh has announced the arrival in Spain of the first commercial container of Bloom Fresh table grape varieties grown by Uvadom in the Dominican Republic, marking the first Caribbean-grown table grape shipment into Europe and a significant milestone in advancing the Northern Hemisphere grape season.

The shipment, managed through AMFresh Iberia’s retail services platform in Spain, will supply selected premium Spanish retailers including El Corte Inglés and Eroski, bringing earlier access to premium seedless table grapes for Spanish consumers and shoppers. It includes Sweet Celebration, Bloom’s red seedless table grape variety.

AMFresh said the project highlights how next-generation varietal innovation and global sourcing strategies are creating new opportunities to expand premium table grape availability and unlock earlier supply windows.

“Spain’s premium table grape category continues to evolve rapidly, and our role is to identify the best growing regions and supply windows globally to deliver exceptional fruit experiences to retailers and consumers,” said Paula Gil, commercial manager at AMFresh Iberia.

“The Dominican Republic represents an exciting opportunity to further advance the European season with differentiated varieties that deliver outstanding flavour, crunch, freshness, and consistency. This first Caribbean-to-Europe shipment reflects the power of combining varietal innovation, global sourcing strategy, and retail execution through one integrated platform.”

Moisés Ureña, Bloom Fresh lead in the Dominican Republic, commented: “From the beginning, we saw strong potential for the Dominican Republic to become a new premium table grape origin capable of complementing global premium grape supply calendars.

“The early commercial and agronomic results have been incredibly encouraging, and it is thrilling to see the first commercial fruit now reaching Spain while we continue evaluating long-term potential for Europe and North America.”

The Dominican Republic has emerged as a promising new origin for table grape cultivation due to its favourable climate, strategic geographic positioning, and ability to target attractive early-season market windows. Bloom Fresh has been actively supporting varietal trials and technical development in the country with local grower-exporter partner Uvadom.

Initial trial plantings in the Dominican Republic have included patented Bloom Fresh varieties such as Sweet Celebration, Sweet Globe, Timpson, and Allison, with ongoing evaluations focused on varietal performance, fruit quality, production timing, and export potential.
