Frieda’s, the specialty produce wholesaler based in California, this year celebrated its fiftieth year in business, while founder, Frieda Rapoport Caplan, was recently honoured at the National Association of Women Business Owners’ 26th Annual Awards Luncheon.

Rapoport Caplan, who is now chairwoman of the board, was honoured with the Legacy Award for her leadership in the produce industry as the first woman to own a wholesale produce business, for her dedication to the advancement of women in business and for her support for many women’s rights organisations.

“Being recognised among tens of thousands of successful female entrepreneurs for her legacy is prestigious, and will only add to Frieda’s continuous legacy as a female business owner and mentor,” Karen Caplan, president and chief executive officer of Freida’s, said.

Frieda’s was the first wholesale produce company in the US to be founded, owned and operated by a woman, and is still a family- and female-owned business today.
