The French supplier says the success of its first trimodal shipment of Vietnamese mangoes demonstrates its ability to evolve logistically
Fruits Rouges & Co achieved a first in its history by delivering a refrigerated container loaded with Vietnamese mangoes all the way to France via a combination of ship, barge and finally truck.
“Three modes of transport. A collective effort,” the company summarised on LinkedIn.
The mangoes were shipped by sea from Vung Tau, Vietnam, to the port of Antwerp, before travelling by barge to the Contargo North France inland port in Bruay-sur-l’Escaut, and completing the final leg by truck.
“Sea, river, and road: coordinating these three stages for a refrigerated shipment required expertise, commitment and precision,” the company posted. “As the driving force behind the project, our logistics team managed the operation from start to finish, supported by all the internal teams involved. The success of this operation is a testament to their collective effort. We extend our sincere thanks to the teams at Rhenus Logistics and Contargo North France for their responsiveness and professionalism throughout the journey.”
The milestone is also seen as a “tangible step forward” in the evolution of Fruits Rouges & Co’s logistics, specifically concerning the use of river transport.
“General data on river transport indicates that a single barge can replace the equivalent of 10-250 truck trips,” the company said. “It also shows five times lower CO2 and greenhouse gas emissions, as well as energy consumption up to four times lower per tonne of cargo.”
Fruits Rouges & Co said the success of the shipment showed its “ability to evolve its logistics practices and gives fresh momentum to this collective initiative”.
