Spanish cooperative El Grupo SCA – part of the Unica Group – has approved the reappointment of Fulgencio Torres as president – a role he has held for 30 years, establishing him as a key figure in the agri-food cooperative movement in Granada.

“This decision serves as an endorsement of three decades of hard work, dedication, and commitment to the cooperative’s member farmers, as well as a career defined by his advocacy for the cooperative model and his focus on the development and competitiveness of the fruit and vegetable sector,” El Grupo said.

“Throughout these years, Torres has remained firmly aligned with the values that define the cooperative movement, prioritising collaboration, the unity of producers, and the defence of their interests as the fundamental pillars of his leadership.”

It said the renewal of his presidency also signals a commitment to the continuity and stability of the cooperative as it faces new challenges within an evolving agri-food sector – a landscape shaped by the need to improve farm profitability, advance innovation, and respond to new market demands.

“El Grupo thus begins a new chapter with its sights set on the future, maintaining its commitment to its members, the strengthening of its fruit and vegetable operations, and the consolidation of a business model rooted in cooperation and collective effort,” the cooperative said.

Cooperativas Agroalimentarias de Granada (Faeca) praised Torres’ track record and his contribution over the past three decades to strengthening the cooperative movement, while also underscoring the importance of having leaders who are committed to the present and future of the province’s agri-food cooperatives.
