Three-day tour will include visits to the Danish capital’s markets and official meetings with local trade bodies and politicians
German wholesale market association GFI German Fresh Food Markets is organising a three-day visit to Copenhagen this week as part of its annual study tour of European capitals.
Around 30 wholesale and weekly market managers will visit the Danish capital according to GFI.
“For the first time, our passion for markets is taking us to Scandinavia,” said GFI board member Rolf Strobel. “The Danish capital is one of the most fascinating food destinations in Europe.”
Highlights of the programme include Scandinavia’s state-of-the-art markets: the wholesale market, the Torvehallerne, the street food markets Broens and Reffen and the former meat packing district Kødbyen. There will also be official meetings with GTAI Germany Trade & Invest, the German-Danish Chamber of Commerce as well as at the Danish Parliament at Christiansborg Palace.
Strobel commented: “The range of Copenhagen’s culinary scene is nothing short of impressive, including a radically different way of thinking about ingredients and interesting new ways and methods of preparing dishes. Apart from beloved classics like smørrebrød, there will be cool street food, sustainable markets and organic fine dining restaurants”.
The objective of the study trips is to provide a profound exchange of experience on sustainable market concepts. This time, GFI is receiving support from its colleagues at JEUDAN, with whom it has a close relationship through the WUWM (World Union of Wholesale Markets). Further local partners are Farmers Market, Solfrugt and Sarbo Ventures.
All of them ensure that the GFI members are able to get a look behind the scenes of the markets as well as their management and gain valuable insights for their own work in Germany.
