Grand Castle Ozkan Arabaci

Dubai-based supplier Grand Castle has revealed plans to launch a new home delivery service in the UAE.

According to the company's import and export manager, Ozkan Arabaci, consumers will be able to go online to order produce, which will then be delivered by refrigerated truck.

However, the idea is that shoppers will not be limited to their online order, but will be able to enter the truck and choose any produce they desire.

'It will be a kind of mobile grocery store,' Arabaci told Fruitnet.com. 'Consumers will be able to order online, but they won't have to, and they will be able to change their order when they see the produce themselves.'

The benefit, Arabaci says, is that customers can choose the individual fruit and vegetables they want, 'with their own eyes'.

The operation should be running by the beginning of June, according to Arabaci. 'We are planning to start with four big grocery trucks, but we can increase this number, depending on the demand,' he said. 'We will also offer a 24-hour service, which will be particularly good for Ramadan.'

The company is currently working on its IT systems to ensure the operation is secure, but Arabaci foresees no problems.

'Everything is possible in today's world,' he said, 'as long as you do it right.'
