The International Fresh Produce Association (IFPA) will provide 7,500 apples from Washington and New York states as part of its contribution to the White House’s Halloween festivities. Hosted by President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, this annual tradition welcomes thousands of children and families to trick-or-treat on the South Lawn.

IFPA said these fresh offerings highlight its belief that “produce and florals belong at the centre of every occasion, bringing joy, nourishment, and beauty to celebrations large and small”.

“Halloween at the White House is a wonderful opportunity to share the magic of fresh, nutritious produce and florals with families from across the nation,” said CEO Cathy Burns. “Whether it’s a crunchy apple, festive pumpkins or bright florals in seasonal colours, fresh products have a special way of connecting people to the moment and to one another.”

Washington’s Chelan Fresh will provide miniature Rockit apples, while New York-based Yes! And Crunch Time Apple Growers will also provide fruit.

As part of the festivities, Frey Farms will also supply Sarah’s Homegrown Heirloom, Jack O’Lantern and mini pumpkins, while flowers will be provided by Metrolina Greenhouses.

After the event event, IFPA will donate Frey Farms pumpkins to nonprofit DC Central Kitchen, where they will be used in meals distributed to the local community.

“IFPA’s involvement reflects its ongoing commitment to promoting healthy eating, celebrating American-grown produce, and connecting families to the benefits of fresh fruits, vegetables and florals,” the association said.
