Company’s Nicola Melillo reports from south of country, where new volumes of harvested fruit have already been shipped
One of Europe’s leading fruit suppliers has reported “outstanding” and “exceptionally high” quality in the production of new-season apricots out of southern Italy.
In an article posted on the company’s website, Kölla Italia quality manager Nicola Melillo said early harvested fruit showed good promise on a visit to Basilicata and Puglia in early May, despite some recent instances of extreme weather, including frost and hail.
“The first apricots are of outstanding quality – a great reason to look forward to the season ahead,” said Melillo.
Despite those weather challenges, the new harvest is “off to a steady start overall”, he added.
First shipments have now begun, and volumes are set to increase gradually over the course of the next two weeks.
