The German discounter’s exports of Spanish fruit and vegetable have risen by 85 per cent since 2017

Lidl has become one of the main exporters of Spanish agri-food products, accounting for 15 per cent of the total volume of fruit and vegetable shipments abroad over the past three decades.

As reported in El Economista, the German discounter has increased its exports of Spanish produce by 85 per cent since 2017.

In the subsequent eight years, the company has exported Spanish food worth more than €24bn, becoming the main buyer in of Spanish-grown fruit and vegetables.

According to the chain’s Corporate Impact Report, prepared by PwC, Lidl increased its investments in Spanish suppliers and companies by 6 per cent in the last year to €8.681bn, representing an increase of 95 per cent on the amount spent in 2018.
