Discounter Lidl is holding a Spanish and Portuguese week from 24 to 30 July at its UK stores. The retailer is inviting consumers to celebrate summer with its heavily discounted range of Spanish and Portuguese food and wine, which includes a number of fresh produce lines, as well as wine and beer, cheeses and cured meats.
Among them are honeydew melons for £1 and a 500g pack of doughnut peaches, supplied by Frutas Esther, on sale for 99p.
As part of the promotion, the stores will run a ‘Half Price Weekend’, during which products will be further discounted.
Lidl announced last month that it would be focusing increasingly on fresh food and in-store bakeries in an attempt to further eat into the market share of the big four supermarkets. According to Kantar Worldpanel, Lidl’s share of the UK grocery market grew by 22.7 per cent in the 12 weeks to 25 May, giving it a record 3.6 per cent share of the market. Between them, Lidl and Aldi now hold more than 8 per cent of the grocery market and analysts predict this could rise to 15 per cent.
