AP Moller–Maersk has appointed Charles van der Steene as the regional managing director for the Indian Subcontinent, Middle East & Africa (IMEA), a move that came into effect on 1 January.

Van der Steene has been with Maersk since 2011, having previously worked in the IMEA region from 2016 to 2019, as regional CEO for this territory for Damco.

His subsequent roles have included heading sales and marketing in North America and, most recently, leading the North America region.

”I’m honoured to be leading our exceptional team across the IMEA region, where we serve customers navigating some of the world’s most complex and rapidly evolving trade corridors,” said van der Steene.

”This region’s strategic importance continues to grow, connecting three continents and driving global commerce.

”I look forward to working alongside our colleagues to deliver consistency, resilience and innovation to the supply chains that depend on us every day,” he outlined.

Europe hire

It follows the announcement earlier in January that Guillaume Sauzedde has taken over as regional managing director for Europe.

Sauzedde joined Maersk in 2024 as head of logistics and services for Europe region after holding managing director roles for Ceva Logistics and Kühne and Nagel.

”I am looking forward to continuing serving our customers together with the great Maersk teams I got to know over the past 16 months with the company,” said Sauzedde.

”Over the past years, Maersk has established itself with an extensive logistics footprint across Europe including ownership and control of decisive assets and expertise across all parts of the supply chain.

”It’s exciting to have such a powerful and differentiating offering for our customers in these disruptive times and to deliver resilient, value adding end-to-end solutions to them,” he added.
