Company anticipates good volumes and sizes for mangoes and avocados for 2025/26
Expectations are running high at Málaga-based Montosa ahead of the new mango and avocado season. Against a backdrop of rising European demand for tropical fruit, the company is reporting strong volumes and excellent quality as mango harvesting gets underway and says it has agreed ambitious sales programmes with multiple distributors.
Following a 2024 harvest marked by limited supply, the new mango campaign looks very different, the company said.
“Last year was extremely challenging due to scarce fruit. This season, mango volumes are much higher, and the fruit is top quality across all sizes,” explained commercial director Thierry Athimon.
“When there’s fruit available, everyone rushes to harvest, but we make sure only ripe, well-coloured fruit is picked and work hard to minimise latex stains. That’s why Montosa mangoes are highly appreciated by our customers.”
After the heavy rains last winter, prospects for national avocados are also encouraging. “The abundant rainfall ensured ample water supply, which has benefited both quantity and size of the avocados. While you always need to be cautious and wait for the harvest to confirm volumes, we currently have a promising forecast for both conventional and organic production,” Athimon said.
Montosa also continues to grow its fresh guacamole programme with large-scale retailers. “In Spain, we’ve been producing guacamole for the country’s largest supermarket chain for years, and our collaboration has been key to making it a popular choice,” Athimon said. “Today, guacamole is no longer considered an exotic product but a staple in family diets.”
The guacamole is made from 100 per cent fresh avocado and processed in-house using cutting-edge HPP technology to preserve taste and texture. “We provide a premium product. We’ve invested in expanding production capacity and automation, and now we’re working on new variants to broaden our distribution in Europe with fresh recipes,” Athimon concluded.
Montosa will be exhibiting at Fruit Attraction in Hall 10, Stand D16.
