Fall in Mexican supply created a window for Moroccan fruit at the beginning of this year
Supply challenges in Mexico created an opportunity for Moroccan avocado exporters in the Canadian market in 2024/25. As reported by EastFruit, the north African nation exported 1,180 tonnes of avocados worth US$3.7mn to Canada between July 2024 and May 2025.

While this is still a tiny fraction of Morocco’s overall exports, analysts said the results marked a promising entry into a new market.
Canada imports 93 per cent of its avocado from Mexico. However, excessive rains in the summer of 2024 led to a decline in Mexican production in the subsequent months. This, together with concerns over a threatened 25 percent tariff on Mexican goods transiting the US under Trump’s tariff policy, led several Canadian importers to reduce orders of Mexican avocados and switch to alternative sources.
