Four Italian suppliers are doubling production of Ondine flat nectarines this season, with fruit from Calabria, Emilia-Romagna, Piedmont and Veneto backed by a new ‘Snack the Summer’ marketing campaign launching in Milan.

Production of Ondine in Italy is expected to double this season, according to the four companies who produce and supply the flat, white-fleshed nectarine variety.

The product will be back on sale in the country from the end of June, with what is expected to be a larger volume of marketable fruit sourced mainly from Calabria and Emilia-Romagna, plus smaller quantities from Piedmont and Veneto.

“The doubling of volumes represents a very important step for Ondine in Italy, because it allows us to extend the project further and to support the product’s growth with a more structured presence,” said a spokesperson for the four groups who grow and sell the product – Agrintesa/Alegra, Cico/Mazzoni, Greenyard, and Naturitalia.

“Ondine has all of the characteristics to appeal to consumers who want high-quality fruit but also convenience, familiarity, and new eating occasions,” the spokesperson added.

“For this reason, the 2026 season will be accompanied by a dedicated marketing campaign, designed to showcase the premium, flat nectarine as a natural, fresh and distinctive summer snack.”

Ondine nectarines are currently grown in five countries – France, Greece, Italy, and Spain in Europe, plus Australia.

In Italy, this season’s marketing plan is built around the slogan ‘Snack the Summer (anytime, anywhere)’, with the aim of strengthening brand awareness and supporting Ondine’s growth in the Italian market.

That message will be conveyed via out-of-home, in-store, and digital marketing, starting in Milan.

The campaign will also include promotional activities and tastings in supermarkets – backed by a “clearer and more direct” visual identity to make Ondine even more immediately recognisable on the shelf – as well as a range of digital content.
