The new version is designed to improve accuracy and user experience

OneThird has launched a brand-new version of its Avocado Scanner providing an even higher accuracy level (around 90 per cent), and featuring Dual LED technology as well as a new intuitive result screen.
The company said the advances are designed to deliver an even better experience for shoppers and retailers alike. The device has already been installed at more than 350 stores in 25 countries worldwide, including in Chile, Finland, the UAE and New Zealand.
“The Avocado Scanner has already proven its value in retail locations across the globe. It helps shoppers choose the avocado to their liking and delivers measurable results for retailers,” OneThird said.
Business unit manager René Clerc commented: “With the Avocado Scanner, retailers can improve customer satisfaction, reduce waste, and drive avocado sales. This new version makes the technology even more reliable and easier to use”.
OneThird developed the tool to address a common consumer pain point: having to guess or pinch to determine the ripeness of an avocado. Through the addition of Dual LED, the Avocado Scanner becomes even more accurate. It now performs two measurements in rapid succession, a dual scan within a millisecond. Because each scan captures the avocado at a different point, the technology simultaneously measures two distinct locations on the fruit. Resulting in a more consistent, and therefore better ripeness determination.
The new result screen, developed in response to consumer and retailer feedback, features a ripeness thermometer that acts as a visual indicator showing precisely where within or between ripeness categories the avocado sits. This is especially valuable for avocados that fall on the boundary between two ripeness stages, giving consumers immediate information and leaving the guessing of the avocado ripeness behind. The updated screen has already been pushed to all Avocado Scanners in the field.
