Company also plans to open new facilities in northern Spain and Seville shortly, as it pursues long-term expansion plan

Italian company Gruppo Orsero has confirmed it plans to explore the possibility of establishing a fresh produce import business in the US, and wants to enter the country as soon as possible.
In an article published in the Corriere Della Sera’s weekly supplement L’Economia, group CFO and co-CEO Matteo Colombini said investment in the US fresh produce business represented an important opportunity to apply its knowledge and expertise in a new and promising market.
“For the future, we are looking above all at the USA, an enormous market where soon we will have a need for our own distrbutor,” he told the newspaper. “South American products are for the most part destined for the US market. And we want, within a short time, to enter and be part of it.”
As Fruitnet reported in early December, the group is already exploring a number of potential targets as it bids to establish a presence in the region.
Orsero differs from other major European players such as Dole and Greenyard in that it has not previously operated its own import facilities in North America, despite handling a large volume of fruit sourced from Latin America.
Colombini also offered an update on its ongoing European expansion. It will open major new distribution facilities in northern Spain and Seville in the near future, part of a multiyear expansion strategy that has already seen it invest more than €320mn in mergers, acquisitions, and growing its existing distribution network, since 2017.
Orsero expects its 2025 sales to be in the region of €1.65bn to €1.69bn, which would be around 10.5 per cent higher than its 2024 turnover.
