The company’s soft fruit breeding programme is once again recognised by the International Taste Institute in Brussels

Six of Planasa’s berry varieties and advanced selections of blueberry and strawberry have received the Superior Taste Award from the International Taste Institute in Brussels. These new awards join the one received earlier this year by the Pink Hudson raspberry variety.
In blueberries, the Blue Maldiva and Blue Madeira varieties have been distinguished with the Superior Taste Award after blind tastings conducted by an international jury of more than 200 chefs and sommeliers.
“Blue Maldiva is positioned as a premium variety, combining outstanding flavour, jumbo-sized fruit, and consistent production throughout the season,” Planasa said.
“For its part, Blue Madeira stands out for its firmness, shelf-life, and excellent organoleptic profile. The results obtained underscore the sensory quality of both varieties, with a remarkable balance between flavour, texture, and consumption experience.”
In strawberries, four new selections from Planasa’s breeding programme have also been recognised with an award, granted by the International Taste Institute in Brussels. Three of them received the highest distinction of three stars and scores exceeding 90 per cent and in some cases approaching 95 per cent.
Planasa said the accolades highlight the efforts of its breeding teams over the years to strengthen an increasingly robust portfolio of varieties in terms of quality to compete in the most demanding markets.
“It is worth noting that, with regard to raspberries, the Pink Hudson variety was also awarded this recognition earlier this year, achieving the highest rating of three stars and a score of 90.7 per cent,” the company said.
The Superior Taste Awards are presented annually following blind tastings by an independent panel of over two hundred tasting experts, including chefs and sommeliers from more than 20 countries.
