MLK Deliveries, a subsidiary of the Italian postal service Poste Italiane, has partnered with Italtrans logistics company Mazzocco to launch a courier service that delivers fresh produce and other fresh foods.

According to the group, the MLKFresh service is already operational in several cities, including Rome, Milan, Turin, Bologna and Florence, and will soon be expanded to all major cities.

Products purchased online will be transported in refrigerated vehicles and delivered during a time slot selected by the customer.

The recipient will also have the option to collect the package at a designated pickup point instead of the originally specified address, by indicating the change online up to 30 minutes before the initially scheduled delivery time.

Poste Italiane said it aims to expand its logistics services for ecommerce, to capitalise on the rising trend of online purchases in the food and beverage sector.
