A new event aimed at promoting excellence in fresh produce category management among Italian supermarkets takes place on 13 November in Milan.
Fresh Retailer: Show&Conference is an invitation-only meeting that aims to satisfy demand among supermarket buyers and category managers for greater insight and networking within the fresh produce business.
The event is divided into two various parts: a conference, which will consider the theme of improvement in supply chain relationships and the fresh produce department’s performance; an innovation area showcasing the latest products and services from selected suppliers; the presentation of a new award, Top Fresh Retailer 2016; and, to finish, an informal dinner with the opportunity to try some of the best Italian wines.
According to the organiser, Italian fresh produce industry publisher Fruitbook Magazine, the whole event, from the welcome reception at 3pm to the dinner which finishes around 11pm, has been designed to encourage networking and interaction among its participants, all in the scenic, informal surroundings of Milan’s Officine del Volo.
During the conference, which will be moderated by Corriere della Sera economics reporter Isidoro Trovato, results will be presented from a new survey designed to gauge opinion among key produce suppliers about how best to improve relations between suppliers and buyers, and how to ensure supermarket produce departments perform as well as they possibly can.
“The survey is relevant because these suppliers on the one hand are experts in the products they supply, and moreover in many cases they are also dealing with retail chains that operate abroad,” commented Eugenio Felice, editor of Fruitbook Magazine.

The Top Fresh Retailer prize, meanwhile, will be awarded to the retailer which, according to suppliers, performed best in the past year according to various criteria including ethics and innovation.
