Three products from Dutch fruit and vegetable breeding company Rijk Zwaan have been recognised by the International Taste Institute (ITQI).

The group submitted its Tropical Watermelon, Sweet Palermo mix and Crunchy Snack Lettuce to the ITQI this year, with all three awarded the maximum three-star Superior Taste Award.

Tropical Watermelon is described as a seedless watermelon with yellow flesh and a summery sweet taste.

Rijk Zwaan’s Sweet Palermo mix consists of pointed peppers with a particularly sweet taste in four colours.

Finally, the group’s Crunchy Snack Lettuce is described as being a crunchy fresh lettuce with a full flavour.

”For Rijk Zwaan, this award is a clear sign that our breeding programmes aimed at distinctive taste and quality are producing effective results,” the company stated.

Rijk Zwaan is a family-owned international fruit and vegetable breeding company supplying seeds to growers in more than 100 countries.

”Research is at our core,” it added. “We breed future-proof varieties in anticipation of climate change and ever-changing market demands.”
