The Dutch breeding company will showcase its Nasonovia Defense lettuce, Blue Leaf cucumbers and health-focused varieties in Berlin

Fresh produce breeder Rijk Zwaan will present a number of innovative varieties at Fruit Logistica in Berlin, as it looks to demonstrate how it works with growers, processors and retailers to ensure a reliable, year-round supply of fresh fruits and vegetables.
“At Fruit Logistica, we showcase innovations that help growers produce healthy crops and secure production,” said Jan Doldersum, manager chain and retail at Rijk Zwaan.
”This not only strengthens their business but also ensures the fresh produce chain and retailers can offer consumers the quality they expect, every single day.”

From the group’s Nasonovia Defense lettuce for sustainable pest control, to Blue Leaf cucumbers for robust crops, Rijk Zwaan said its genetic solutions help the entire chain deliver consistent quality, which is a win for growers, retailers and consumers.
And as hydroponic systems continue to gain ground, the company is also showcasing pioneering examples from the US, ”proving that technology and sustainability go hand in hand”.
Health and nutrition is also an important factor when developing fresh products, and Rijk Zwaan emphasised its belief that vegetables are the foundation of a healthy lifestyle.
“We’re proud to highlight varieties that deliver not just great taste but are also a natural source of vitamins, like our peppers Tatayoyo and Sweet Palermo,” it stated.
Besides health, consumers also want convenience. After introducing a sneak peek at its consumer brand Veggies First last year, Rijk Zwaan is now bringing it to Berlin in full force.
”Our veggie snack wall will show how we make vegetables an irresistible part of daily life,” the group outlined. ”Veggies First is here to challenge conventions and prove one thing: it’s always time for vegetables.”
Crunchiness is also being highlighted in Berlin, with Rijk Zwaan encouraging visitor to try its MyCubies cucumbers, new snack tomatoes like Calchetto, Laurenchetto and Abrametto, and the award-winning Tatayoyo pepper – as well as its brand-new snack lettuce concept, developed together with partners in Spain.

Those coming to Berlin will also have the opportunity to visit the company’s Retail Centre.
In addition to Fruit Logistica, Rijk Zwaan will also be hosting Hydroponic Demo Days in the Netherlands (26 January to 6 February) and Winter Open Field Days in Spain (9-13 February) to show its latest concepts in action.
