Royal Star papaya safe to eat

Papaya grower Tex Starr Distributing has reminded US consumers that its Royal Star variety is 'perfectly safe' after passing a series of random inspections by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Royal Star is not included in the voluntary recall of papayas by Agromod Produce, which imports fruit from Mexico and has been tracking down Blondie, Mañanita, Tastylicious and Yaya papayas sold before 23 July.

The FDA recently found salmonella in two papaya samples from Agromod and is investigating 97 reported cases of salmonella with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
