Waikiki melon, developed by Semillas Fitó with the support of its network of partner growers, has been awarded the Flavour of the Year prize in Spain for the first time, in addition to receiving this recognition for the third consecutive year in Portugal.

The awards are one of the most prestigious distinctions in the agri-food sector, evaluated by a consumer panel and supported by analyses from specialized external laboratories that measure sensory satisfaction.

The breeder said Waikiki has become a unique product in the market, “standing out for its exceptional flavour and distinctive consumption experience”.

“This seal has a very special value because it is awarded by the consumers themselves. We are thrilled to know that Waikiki connects with them, and it motivates us to continue innovating and bringing a fresh, exotic, and delicious experience to more and more homes,” said José Cardenas, Waikiki brand manager at Semillas Fitó.

The jury unanimously highlighted the melon’s exceptional quality, emphasising its balanced and natural flavour, its aromatic intensity, and especially its soft, crisp, and juicy texture.

Furthermore, consumers who participated in the tasting highlighted its attractive appearance, with a uniform colour and appetising look.

“This recognition solidifies Waikiki as a premium option, with a flavour that not only meets but exceeds consumer expectations,” Semillas Fitó said.

According to the seed company, the Waikiki brand is recognised by 50 per cent of Portuguese consumers and has a strong presence in the country’s main retail chains, thanks to its collaboration with its production partner, Planície Verde.
