Mexican tomatoes

US grower-packer Six L's Packing Company has announced that it has signed an exclusive sales and marketing agreement with Meyer Tomato Company to market tomatoes and winter vegetables.

According to the group, the relationship provides Six L's with greater sales volume and additional growing and shipping locations for improved customer service, regionally correct buying and transportation efficiencies.

'Our new sales partnership with Meyer Tomato allows us to broaden our supply base in Mexico and provide our customers with a dependable source of products from multiple growing regions,' said Darren Micelle, chief marketing officer for Six L's.

'The opportunity to partner with Six L's Packing provides a clear advantage for us and our growers to work more directly with our customers and take advantage of the year-round sales synergy they can provide,' noted Bob Meyer, managing partner of Meyer LLC. 'Six L's focus on sales and category development will allow our growers to focus on growing and packing quality product.'

The deal builds on Six L's current tomato interests in Mexico, and solidifies the company's year-round presence as a category leader, providing nearly 3m cases of tomatoes including rounds, romas and cherries and a further 1m cases of cucumbers, bell peppers and squash.

'We are continually evaluating opportunities to grow our business, and the chance to work with Meyer and add an additional 5m packages to our current Mexico programme allows us to establish a dominant US position that mirrors our strength on the East Coast,' Micelle added.
