Sorma Group has unveiled its new EVA-700 pre-sizing machine at Fruit Attraction in Madrid, a system that the company said ”does away with manual sorting tables”.

Designed for direct installation on the production line, EVA-700 automates the rejection of overripe or unsuitable fruit before it proceeds further down the line.

The Italian company said that, thanks to the greater sorting reliability of EVA-700 and the automation of what was traditionally a manual task, the new technology delivers lower production costs, faster sorting and improved quality in the final packed product.

Also making its debut at the event is Ultra-Scan, designed to detect internal defects in fruit.

Ultra-Scan uses a scanning system capable of reaching the core of the fruit while maintaining speeds of up to 15 units per second, Sorma noted.

“The latest products we are showcasing at Fruit Attraction, both developed at our Spanish subsidiary, are available across all our markets,” explained Sergio Alonso, product marketing manager at Sorma Iberica.

“These new additions demonstrate our ability to bring automation, leading-edge technology and sustainable solutions to a fresh produce sector that is more profitable, safer and ready for the future.”

Sorma’s packaging technologies have also featured at Fruit Attraction, including P&P-800, a pick-and-place solution that automates the placement of fruit into trays and boxes, and Sorma Clipless, the net packaging that requires no metal clips.

“We are excited to bring our latest innovations to Fruit Attraction,” added Silvia Albanese, marketing specialist at Sorma Group.

“Thanks to the continuous, high-calibre work of our R&D teams, we are bringing new tools to the fresh produce sector to help it meet the challenges ahead.”
